Architectural plans, 1907-1983.

Includes blueprints for the construction of a new building for the Brooklyn Children's Museum. Several plans were drawn over the years, but only the final plans from the 1970's resulted in a new building. There are complete series of blueprints for a new building at Washington Avenue and Eastern Parkway, adjacent to the Brooklyn Museum and Brooklyn Botanic Garden; plans drawn by Brown, Lawford and Forbes, architects, 1949. Of interest are plans illustrating proposed changes to transplant areas within Brooklyn Botanic Garden to allow room for new Children's Museum; specifications and proposal for bids for building accompany blueprints, 1949. Collection also contains preliminary drawings by the same architectural firm for rehabilitation and addition to Children's Museum when located at 185 Brooklyn Avenue, site of present building, 1965-1966. Also complete set of architectural plans for present building, designed by Hardy Holtzman & Pfeiffer, 1971, and opened to the public in 1977. Plans cover all details of building including construction of special exhibition spaces; revisions for particular areas, 1975-1976; modifications to present building, 1981; and rehabilitation of Brower Park where Museum stands, 1981-1983. In addition, drawings of proposed use of learning environment in present building, showing children interacting with exhibits.
